During Semana de Santa...the holiest of holy events in Quito, Ecudaor...as the menfolk shroud themselves in spiky purple hoods and lacquer body parts in fake blood (hey, who used up all the raspberry jam?), I bake an easter and farewell gift for our amazing hosts, Andi and Wolfgang from Wantara. (The last of the bread baking as we make our way south to Peru.)
We had a rejuvenating 1.5 month stay in Wantara's refuge: the blossoming calla lilies, sage, rosemary, mint and thyme garden, the daily views of la virgen del panecillo from our casita, did wonders to quiet minds and pry open those finicky heart channels. (If you are ever in the Quito hood, definitely look them up).
